Philosophy: The format of this tournament was created with the
following goals in mind:
¯
Friendly, fun and
good competition
¯
Experience for as
many young wrestlers as possible in a team –oriented dual atmosphere
¯
Application of an
objective format for match-ups
Match Procedure: Three
one-minute periods, high school over time rules. Officials will flip for choice
to start second period prior to the start of each dual.
Dual Scoring: Same as high
school. In case of a tie, National Federation tiebreaker criteria will be
applied. A team will forfeit 6 points to
the opponent if it does not have representation at the number one spot for each
weight class. In other words, a team
that has at least one wrestler at each of the seventeen weight classes will not
have to forfeit. EXAMPLE: Team A will not be penalized by forfeits if
it only has one wrestler entered at a particular weight, and Team B has three
at the same weight. In this case, the
number 1’s will match up, and this will be the only match at that weight
applied toward the team score. (Note:
Team B could move its 2 or 3 up in ranking to get that match.) Where match-ups are made by tournament management involving
number 2’s or 3’s within the same
weight, these matches will factor into the team score, and a wrestler who fails
to present to the mat when called upon will forfeit 6 points to the opponent’s
team score. The exception would be in
the event of an injury. A wrestler who
does not report for his match due to an injury will not forfeit 6 points to the
opponent, and he will be scratched from the tournament for the remainder of the
day.
